The Year 3 learning program begins with Launch Pad. This is an introductory two-week online module.
The subsequent learning program is a series of two- and four-week modules. English, Humanities and Arts, Health and PE, as well as Science, Design and Technologies, are delivered fully online. Digital technologies are integrated into each of the learning areas.
The Mathematics course can be downloaded in PDF format from VSV Online.
The Year 3 curriculum is based on the Department of Education and Training’s Victorian Curriculum.
Our program is flexible so it can adapt to your child’s individual needs.
The English learning program focuses on developing literacy, language and thinking skills. Learning activities include deconstructing and constructing specific text types. Throughout the four-week modules, increasingly complex punctuation and sentence structures are developed. Your child will draw upon prior knowledge to practise and extend what they have learnt to consolidate both ‘learning to read and write’ and ‘reading and writing to learn’.
The Maths program consists of 16 sequential modules. These modules emphasise the meaning and purpose of mathematics, and how it is relevant and applicable to daily life. Your child will complete learning activities to construct and develop key understandings in number and algebra, measurement and geometry, as well as statistics and probability. Your child will engage in the learning program through questioning, investigating, reasoning and problem-solving.
The two-week modules contain related explanations, tasks, assessments, reflections and online interactives. As part of the VSV enrolment, your child will have access to Mathletics to supplement the VSV Mathematics program.
Humanities and Arts
Humanities and Arts is an integrated curriculum using inquiry-based approaches to learning. Humanities topics include Civics and Citizenship, History, and Geography. Arts includes Visual Arts, Media Arts, Dance, Drama, and Music. Humanities and Arts modules support students to investigate, extend, create, perform and demonstrate the outcomes for these subjects.
Science, Design and Technologies
The Science, Design and Technologies program enables your child to develop scientific language, concepts and processes. This includes the practices used to develop scientific knowledge, the contribution of science to our culture and society, and its applications in our daily lives. This course helps build scientific skills to investigate, design, experiment, document and communicate their solutions and understandings in highly visual, digital formats.
Health and Physical Education
Health and Physical Education modules are designed to guide your child to develop healthy lifestyle choices. Different approaches are used to create awareness of and engagement in making positive lifestyle choices.
To enrol in the Year 3 course, you need:
- internet access
- a printer, scanner or scanner app for your smart phone
